bringing back the dinosaur

WE spent 6 months modelling four different Dinosaurs for ‘Dinosaurs in the wild’ at Milk-vfx

from concept to final

We worked closely with Grant Bonser who created the 2D versions of all the Dinosaurs. We then created a concept sculpt for each Dinosaur which included the Tyrannosaurus, Triceratops, Alamosaurus, and Dakotaraptor. Once we had a rough model of each, we then worked closely with a paleontologist until the designs was approved.

Using this scientific input, we moved to the biggest task, making the dinosaurs pipeline ready.

We created multiple LODs for the dinosaurs to make sure the riggers and animators could work with minimal interruptions. While the higher topology was more than ready for the look dev artists to pick up and plugin the vector maps ‘from ZBrush’ to attain the final look.

These Dinosaurs were going to get close! real close! and for a very long time at that

For this reason, each dinosaur averaged around 50 million polycount, to make sure we could get the most detail possible onto these magnificent creatures.

Each species of dinosaur had many variations, from age, scale and scars!
